First Assist OR Clinical Nurse Part Time

Progress West Hospital, a BJC Health Care facility in St. Charles County, is hiring a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) for perioperative surgeries. The RNFA works alongside surgeons during procedures, providing direct patient care in a team‑based environment.

The RNFA will support surgical teams in a hospital with 3 ORs and no trauma or cardiac service. The position is part‑time, 10‑hour shifts, and offers a bonus, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for career progression through the BJC RN Career Ladder.

Perform an expanded perioperative role as a first assistant to surgeons during surgical procedures in the operating room. Work collaboratively with the perioperative team, providing direct patient care and supporting perioperative decision‑making.

• Deliver intraoperative patient care as the first assistant; conduct pre‑operative assessments and analyze data to determine nursing diagnosis.
• Act as a member of the surgical team, contributing to department efficiency and safety.
• Monitor patient response, administer medications per standard practice, and develop/manage individual plans of care.
• Participate in professional development and lifelong learning, evaluating practice against professional standards.
• Educate patients and families, incorporate research findings, promote ethical practice, and advocate for perioperative health safety.

• Education:
  
  Nursing Diploma/Associate’s Degree.
• Experience:
  
  2‑5 years as a registered nurse.
• Licenses &
  
  Certifications:
  
  Current RN license.

  Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
