Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms, and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting, innovative, efficient environment centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.
The 2100 Inpatient Unit at BJWCH consists of Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, and Plastic Surgery patients. It is a short‑stay unit that strives to provide patients with an exceptional post‑operative experience to ensure safe discharge home.
Med/Surg 2 manages patients with Orthopedic, Spine, Urological, Plastic, and other general post‑surgical conditions. Due to patient acuity, advanced training maintains nurses at the highest level of functioning. The unit is led by a clinical manager and a lead charge nurse and collaborates with case managers, social workers, physical therapists, dietitians, and pharmacists. This multidisciplinary team works with physicians, nurses, and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.
Preferred QualificationsRole Purpose
Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.
Responsibilities- Promotes patient and family‑centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and families on managing illness or injury, including post‑treatment home care needs and medication administration.
- Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, and in professional development.
- Develops, implements, and documents individualized plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team and patient, family, or caregiver, following established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
- Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner, as required for a safety‑sensitive position.
