Opened in 2007, Progress West Hospital is BJC Health Care’s newest hospital in St. Charles County, featuring modern private rooms. It offers 24‑hour emergency services and has partnered with St. Louis Children’s Hospital to provide world‑class pediatric emergency care. Progress West Hospital also provides surgical services, endoscopy services, a cardiac catheterization lab, medical/surgical inpatient services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and the Advanced Wound Center, a specialty wound treatment facility with state‑of‑the‑art equipment.
Progress West Hospital recently completed an expansion of its Childbirth Center to include enhanced services for at-risk mothers and babies, with a newborn ICU that provides care for babies born as early as 32 weeks. Progress West Hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center. The hospital’s medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics.
The Surgical Services department includes 3 ORs. We provide a full range of surgery programs — inpatient or outpatient, general or specialty — in an environment that promotes healing. Surgical services include (not limited to): general surgery, ENT, orthopedics, urology, colorectal, gynecology, gastrointestinal (GI), plastic surgery. This department, along with all departments within the hospital, supports the guiding principles of the hospital in providing care that is customized and reflects the patient's needs, values, and choices.
RolePurpose
Performs an expanded perioperative role as a first assistant to surgeons during surgical procedures in the operating room. The RNFA works alongside the surgeon to provide direct patient care and collaborates with the perioperative team and other healthcare providers in planning care.
Responsibilities- Delivers intraoperative patient care as the first assistant to the surgeon(s) as a collaborative team member. Pre‑operatively performs a focused nursing assessment in reference to planned procedure, identifies nursing diagnoses, and communicates desired patient outcomes.
- Functions as a member of the surgical team and contributes to the overall efficiency of the peri‑operative department, considering factors related to safety, effectiveness, efficiency, environment, and cost in planning, delivering, and evaluating patient care.
- Monitors the patient's response and modifies the plan of care accordingly. Administers medications according to standard nursing practice and manages an individual plan of care directing RNFA interventions.
- Participates in professional development and lifelong learning, seeking learning opportunities and evaluating practice against current professional standards and regulations.
- Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet patient and family needs throughout the continuum, including education. Advocates for perioperative health safety and leads in ethical decision‑making.
