Responsibilities
Med Surg RNs provide bedside care for a diverse patient population, conducting individualized assessments to develop personalized care plans. They prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatments. Key duties include:
- Preparing, administering, and documenting prescribed medications
- Monitoring patients for adverse symptoms and initiating alternative actions as needed
- Changing dressings, inserting catheters, and starting IVs when necessary
- Strong clinical assessment and patient care skills
- Ability to follow detailed protocols and adapt to patient needs
- Competence in medication administration and invasive procedures
