Job Title
Mobile Diesel Technician Level II – DOT Management Level – Individual Contributor – Flexible work (remote possible but must reside within the specified city, state, or region). Travel is 100% of the time. Shift: Day.
CompensationHourly base pay rate $26.73 – $40.10 per hour. Additional compensation may include commission and incentive programs.
Job DescriptionThe Mobile Diesel Technician Level II performs licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, electrical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. Must learn advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques under supervision and comply with company performance metrics.
Duties- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starter, alternator, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment components.
- Inspect, test, and evaluate defective equipment using handheld computers and pressure gauges; road‑test vehicles to confirm proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine relevance of information, and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory on the company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Communicate effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document all work on Repair Orders (RO) using the company iOS device and TRAIT application, including photos of work performed and parts used.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely manner.
- Work independently, managing own daily schedule and maintaining productivity within or close to standard repair times.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field; or other combinations such as a degree or certification beyond HS diploma and 5 years of experience.
- Possess a complete set of hand tools necessary for duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical, or provide a valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining.
- Be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
