About Us

The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) is committed to providing a safe, efficient, and well-maintained learning environment for students and staff. We are seeking a knowledgeable and motivated MEP System Specialist to support the operation, maintenance, and performance of the District's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.

Job Summary

The MEP System Specialist is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and servicing district MEP systems to ensure optimal performance across all facilities. This position oversees building automation systems, coordinates repairs and preventative maintenance, supports MEP technicians, manages vendor relationships, and helps maintain compliance with inspections and maintenance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain district mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems using building automation controls.
  • Program and adjust building control systems to support daily operations, special events, and energy efficiency.
  • Diagnose system issues and coordinate repairs through work orders or direct service.
  • Perform HVAC maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance on district equipment.
  • Oversee the work order system to ensure timely completion and coordinate work with outside contractors when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and compliance records.
  • Manage inventory of MEP equipment, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Coordinate purchasing of equipment, parts, and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
  • Support and assist district MEP technicians to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Respond to emergency mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues during and after normal work hours as needed.
  • Transport tools, equipment, and supplies to district facilities.
  • Participate in professional development, training, and department meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience in the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) field.

Certifications

  • EPA Certification required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of MEP systems, HVAC equipment, building automation controls, safety practices, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical systems.
  • Experience planning projects and coordinating multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and computerized building control systems.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff, vendors, and contractors.
  • Strong problem-solving, time management, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and attention to detail.
