Job SummaryThe Bus Driver is responsible for transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions. This role ensures the safe operation of the vehicle and the safety of students during transport, as well as during loading and unloading from buses.
Key Responsibilities- Behavioral Management: Advise students and passengers on appropriate behavior to maintain safety.
- Incident Assessment: Assess and resolve incidents, complaints, and emergencies (e.g., road hazards, medical emergencies);
Assist students and passengers with safe loading and unloading. - Training and Development:
Attend safety meetings, in-service training, and workshops for job performance. - Vehicle Maintenance:
Clean and maintain the vehicle’s interior and exterior. - Safe Transportation:
Drive the bus safely over scheduled routes and to/from school or field trips. - Vehicle Operations:
Fuel and perform basic maintenance of the vehicle (e.g., oil, water). - Communication:
Inform school personnel and parents about routes, stops, and policies. - Monitoring:
Monitor students and passengers to ensure their safety during transit. - Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections:
Perform vehicle inspections to ensure safety and compliance with guidelines. - Other Duties:
Perform additional related tasks as assigned.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Job-related experience is required.
- Skills: Adherence to safety practices;
First aid administration;
Operation of district vehicles and equipment;
Accurate record-keeping. - Knowledge: Basic math;
Vehicle maintenance;
Safe driving practices;
Pertinent regulations and laws. - Abilities: Work with diverse individuals;
Problem-solve independently;
Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Occasional walking
- Some lifting, carrying, and fine finger dexterity
- Work performed under temperature extremes and with some exposure to risk of injury
