Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator - Full-time
The Town of Oak Bluffs is seeking candidates for the position of Wastewater Operator at the Wastewater Treatment Facility plant. We are looking for candidates who have a mechanical aptitude to work with department tools and equipment (i.e. electrical, plumbing, machining/welding).
All levels of Wastewater certification will be reviewed. Junior Operator position is available for the right candidate, with no certification requirement. Position requires the ability to learn pumping systems operations and the principles and practices of wastewater treatment.
Minimum requirements:
High school diploma, valid MA driver’s license, one year’s experience in plant operations or a related field preferred. Wastewater Operator License is highly desirable.
The Town of Oak Bluffs is commencing a $150 million Comprehensive Wastewater Management Planning Project that begins with $26 million Wastewater Treatment Facility Upgrade and is anticipated to be under contract for construction, which will almost double our treatment capacity, followed by collection system extensions. There will be opportunities for advancement as the Oak Bluffs Wastewater Department grows. Skilled technical work in the operation and maintenance of the municipal wastewater treatment plant and collection system;
all other duties as assigned.
- Junior Plan Operator – Grade 2 license or A candidate for this level must have the ability to obtain a grade 2 license within 6 months.
- Senior Plant Operator – A candidate for this position must have a valid Grade 4 wastewater operator license.
- Mechanic Operator – A candidate for this position must have a valid Grade 6/7 Wastewater Treatment Operator’s license. Regular shift hours are from 7:00am to 3:00pm.
Entry level/ Grade 2 Operator starting hourly range: $31.29 - $32.23.
Grade 4 Operator’s license, starting hourly range: $33.99 - $35.00.
Grade 6/7 Operator’s license starting hourly range: $38.30 - $43.11.
24‑hour on‑call duties for a $21.50 per day stipend and 3‑hour minimum for all callouts, as part of a rotating on‑call schedule.
Non‑exempt, full‑time, union position with a benefit package that includes health insurance, paid leave and enrollment into the Dukes County Retirement System.
