Independence Plus is now hiring a full-time Patient Services Representative based at our Oak Brook, IL office. The role reports to the Intake and Patient Services Manager, offers full benefits including PTO, medical, dental, vision coverage and a 401(k) plan. After training, this position is eligible for hybrid work.

Job Description Summary

The Patient Services Representative is primarily responsible for providing excellent attention and coordination for Home Medical Equipment (HME) clients, payers, and referral sources.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
  • Provides excellent patient services
  • Handles order intake via phone and fax
  • Verifies insurance, confirms orders, and provides data entry for new patients
  • Completes Certificate of Medical Necessity (CMN’s)
  • Completes prior approvals and authorizations
  • Contacts patients for re‑orders
  • Completes repair orders
  • Maintains open communication with payers, referral sources, patients, and all administrative staff
  • Ensures that all files are maintained according to IPI policies and reports all discrepancies to immediate supervisor
  • Stays informed regarding changes in billing guidelines for all payer sources and shares information with appropriate IPI personnel
  • Researches and recommends improvements in general procedures (e.g., billing, items purchased, etc.) to streamline processes and minimize unneeded expense
  • Purchasing and receiving duties, as needed
  • Promotes home nursing and respiratory/HME referrals in the healthcare community
  • Complies with agency, state, federal, and CHAP policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or industry experience
  • Experience in HME billing including insurance verification, data entry skills
  • Good working knowledge of computer applications, word processing, spreadsheet, email, and other software programs for medical billing
  • Excellent computer skills; experience with Brightree preferred
  • Familiarity with medical coding
  • Demonstrates good communication and teamwork both within and outside the department
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English) preferred
