We Energies , a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Plant Operator in our Oak Creek, Wisconsin location. This position is represented by We Energies Local 420S Union.

Job Responsibilities

The principle duties of a Plant Operator consist of operating generation facilities and associated equipment as needed.

  • The Plant Operator investigates abnormal operating conditions, initiates corrective action, performs preventative maintenance and make routine repairs.
  • The employee may at times assist others with maintenance activities as needed.
  • The employee starts and regulates equipment locally and remotely, as required, to meet the system generating needs. These operations include observing and interpreting instruments, alarms, and indicators to determine the status of all equipment, analyzing water and adding chemicals as required, and performing the necessary actions to achieve safe and continual operating conditions.
  • Employee logs data and maintains accurate records, including unusual operating conditions with the corrective actions taken and interprets such information as required.
  • The employee will isolate equipment and do necessary switching, may participate in the administration of the Energy Controls Process if trained and qualified.
  • The employee will also operate and maintain fuel handling equipment such as front end loaders as well as other plant service vehicles.
  • The employee will troubleshoot and correct malfunctions of equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, fans, air compressors, gear trains, fuel and water systems, lighting systems, steam generators, turbines, etc.
  • The employee will perform routine repairs and preventative maintenance; examples include the changing of air, fuel, water and lube oil filters, repacking equipment, removing and replacing valves, lubricating and greasing equipment, replacing belts, etc.
  • The employee also will maintain the work area in a safe, clean, neat and orderly state.
  • The employee will participate in performing periodic maintenance inspections and will assist in the removal, repair and reinstallation of equipment.
  • The employee will be expected to assist in keeping the plant and grounds in good repair.
  • The employee receives and procures materials and provides information to maintain an inventory control program.
  • The employee performs sample collections and maintains records.
  • The employee will provide training to others as required, must have above average aptitude for mechanical/technical work and have an acceptable attendance and safety record.

This position requires the ability and willingness to work a rotating shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and changes to scheduled hours or shifts as required to support plant operations and staffing needs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Will require the use of a respirator in certain situations.
  • Candidates may be required to demonstrate their ability to perform the physical functions of the position by completing a Physical Capacity Evaluation.
Testing Requirements

Plant Operator Selection System (POSS):Ability to read and understand technical material, ability to understand mechanical principles, skill in solving and manipulating mathematical relationships including word problems and algebra, ability to visualize the proper assembled form of an object, and speed and accuracy in reading tables and graphs.

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.

At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
