About the RoleTransport National is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead driver safety, regulatory compliance, cargo claim oversight, and training initiatives across our transportation operations. This role is critical in protecting our drivers, customers, freight, and company by ensuring strong safety practices, proactive risk management, and continuous improvement.
Key ResponsibilitiesDriver Safety & Training Leadership
- Develop and implement driver training programs aligned with company policy, FMCSA regulations, and industry best practices
- Manage electronic training platforms including onboarding and remedial training
- Create company-specific safety training content (videos, materials, interactive training)
- Lead driver safety meetings and maintain open communication on safety trends
Compliance & Risk Management
- Monitor CSA scores, DOT inspections, citations, and regulatory compliance
- Manage ELD systems and resolve Hours of Service issues
- Ensure AED/CPR/First Aid certifications remain current company-wide
- Track driver qualification progress and recommend advancement
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and safety events
- Manage cargo claims end-to-end, including documentation review, investigation, driver/customer communication, and resolution tracking
- Review proof-of-delivery documents for damage notations
- Lead Incident Review Boards and communicate outcomes
- Prepare detailed reports and maintain documentation
- Partner with Operations and HR on driver qualification, recruitment, and retention initiatives
- Travel periodically to terminals to provide coaching, training, and safety support
- Promote company mission, values, and a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3–5 years safety management experience OR trucking operations/driving experience
- Strong working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety/compliance systems
Preferred
- Safety or Risk Management certification
- Experience with specialized, heavy haul, or oversize freight
- Cargo claims management experience strongly preferred
This position combines office leadership with hands-on operational involvement including terminal visits, driver coaching, safety training, yard/shop interaction, and equipment oversight. Occasional travel will be required.
