Job Summary
The Librarian focuses on system initiatives and committee work, information services, collection maintenance, program and service creation, system level support for smaller community libraries and community engagement -- making connections, developing relationships and providing services, spaces, and resources that are representative of diverse cultures and perspectives, intentionally inclusive, and accessible to everyone while supporting community organizations and promoting the library.
Oak Harbor is a very diverse community with a large number of families with young children. The Children's Services Librarian is pivotal to assessing and supporting community needs. The Children's Services Librarian delivers dynamic, customer-focused library service. This role involves carrying out high-impact early-literacy and school age initiatives, conducting extensive outreach to schools and youth organizations, and collaborating with the Information Services team.
Professional duties also include providing reference service (in-person and online), technology and readers' advisory help, and ongoing collection maintenance. The Children's Service's Librarian also contributes to systemwide initiatives and teams to further Sno-Isle Libraries' priorities in early learning. This position is often the person-in-charge of the building helping to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for customers and staff.
Spanish language proficiency is preferred. A multilingual pay differential is available to the successful candidate who demonstrates Spanish-language proficiency.
The person selected for this position will work in the mornings, evenings, and weekends and have a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the community and library.
This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by AFSCME Council 2

Benefits
All Sno-Isle Libraries employees are eligible for sick leave, vacation leave, paid holidays, dental coverage, an employee assistance program, and an employer-paid ORCA Passport card. Essential Functions
Functions listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
The position typically reports to a community library manager, assistant manager, or the manager of a major functional area such as Information Services. Supervision of the work of others is not a normal part of the work of these positions, but incumbents may from time to time assist in the training of other staff in library-related work.
