Position: Substitute Para educator 26-27 SY

Qualifications

Must meet the State of Washington's Highly Qualified requirement
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to deal with special needs students in a warm and confident manner
Ability to remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations
Ability to follow written or verbal instructions
Ability to be fair and consistent when working with students
Ability to properly perceive students' emotional states
Ability to appropriately monitor and correct student behavior
Ability to maintain confidentiality
High school graduation or equivalent

General Functions

Substitute para educators work in Kindergarten through Grade 12 classrooms in a variety of settings, including Special Education, Lunchroom Supervisor, and Library Media Technician/In School Suspension, on an on-call basis. Work is based on employee absenteeism and there are no guaranteed hours or benefits.

The para educator tutors students, monitors and models behavior, and performs clerical duties such as typing and copying materials.

Interviews are held on an on-going basis throughout the school year.
