Role Overview
Amentum is seeking a qualified Aircraft Mechanic 1 specialized in Propulsion/Engine and Fuel Systems (EA-18G experience required) to support operations at NAS Whidbey Island.
Essential Responsibilities- Make repairs to aircraft and follow direction of higher graded workers.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti‑icing, pneumatic, engines, auxiliary power unit, ventilation and heating systems.
- Repair, replace and rebuild aircraft structures such as wings and fuselage and functional components including rigging, surface controls, plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines and equipment such as shears, sheet‑metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun and drills.
- Read and interpret manufacturers’ and airline’s maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
- Replace or repair worn or damaged components such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps and engine‑mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves, using hand tools, gauges and testing equipment; remove engine from aircraft using hoist or forklift, disassemble and inspect parts for wear, cracks, security or other defects.
- Adjust, repair or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
- Perform preflight, thru‑flight and post‑flight maintenance inspections.
- Perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft (flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, checking brakes).
- Supervise jacking and towing of aircraft; enter maintenance records describing work performed and verify satisfactory completion.
- Service engines and airframe components at line station, making repairs short of overhaul to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
- Specialize in repair and modification of structural, precision and functional spare parts and assemblies, and specialize in engine repair.
- Safety – enforce a safety culture; complete all training requirements; fulfill self‑aid/buddy aid responsibilities; participate in emergency response; serve on safety committees and teams.
- Quality – conform to Amentum Quality Policy and carry out job activities in compliance with Amentum Quality System documents and customer contracts; read and understand Quality Management and Customer Satisfaction responsibilities.
- Procedure Compliance – read, understand and implement operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to the job.
Skills and Abilities
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred; three (3) years of job‑related experience required.
- Three (3) years of F/A‑18E/F or EA‑18G experience.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex malfunctions and perform complex organizational‑level maintenance actions in support of the EA‑18G aircraft.
- Must possess experience necessary to inspect all assigned aircraft, certify Aircraft/Engine Logbook entries and possess at least one specialty:
Propulsion/Engine and Fuel Systems; ARS pods;
Airframe/Structural, Landing Gear, Launch/Arresting, Wing/Pylon Fold;
Hydraulic/Pneumatic, Flight Control Systems;
Egress and/or Environmental Control Systems;
Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS);
Avionics Communication/Navigation/Identification/Electronic/Counter‑measures/RADAR and Weapon Control Systems;
Power Distribution/Electrical Power, Instruments, Compass, Automatic Flight Control and Lighting Systems;
Aircraft Armament Line Corrosion (Paint and Final Finish). EA‑18G experience required for listed specialties. - Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word‑processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail‑oriented work.
- Ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance and meet physical requirements associated with daily assigned tasks.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
