Position: Aircraft Life Spt Equip Tec I

Amentum is currently seeking a qualified Aircrew Survival Flight Equipment 1 technician specialized in performing maintenance, scheduled inspections and adjustments of assigned aircrew flight equipment (AFE), in support of the U.S. Naval Air Station maintenance operations at NAS Whidbey Island. Aircrew Survival Flight Equipment 1 technicians must have a combination of experience to inspect and maintain packs and adjust AFE such as flight helmets, oxygen masks, flotation devices, survival kits, helmet‑mounted devices, aircrew night vision and other ocular systems, aircrew eye and respiratory protective equipment and other types of AFE of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.

Essential Responsibilities

Makes repairs to fabric and rubber components, including protective clothing, thermal radiation barriers, flotation equipment and various parachutes. Works under direction of higher graded workers. Evaluates and inspects fabric, rubber equipment and parachutes to determine feasibility of repair or replacement. Evaluates work orders for fabrication of authorized items. Installs and removes aircraft-installed AFE. Uses various types of test equipment such as altimeters, oxygen testers, leakage testers, radio testers and other types of testers to conduct reliability testing on AFE.

Maintains inspection and accountability documentation on AFE issued to aircrews or prepositioned on aircraft.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) licensing of contractor employee technical proficiency is not required.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred and three (3) years of job‑related experience required.
  • Must have completed Course number C‑602‑2043 (PR A‑school).
  • Shall have the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex malfunctions and perform complex organization‐level tasks.
  • Selected candidates will be required to hold this job position for one year.
  • Must possess a level of experience necessary to inspect all aircraft assigned, certify Aircraft/Engine Logbook entries and possess one or more of the specialties:
    • Propulsion/Engine and Fuel Systems
    • Airframe/Structural, Landing Gear, Launch/Arresting, Wing/Pylon Fold;
      Hydraulic/Pneumatic, and mechanical Flight Control Systems
    • Egress and/or Environmental Control Systems (F/A‑18E/F and/or EA‑18G experience is required)
    • Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS)
    • Avionics Communication/Navigation/Identification/Electronic/Counter‑measures/RADAR and Weapon Control Systems (EA‑18G experience is required)
    • Power Distribution/Electrical Power, Instruments, Compass, Automatic Flight Control and Lighting Systems
    • Aircraft Armament
    • Line
    • Corrosion (Paint and Final Finish)
  • Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word‑processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail‑oriented work are required.
  • Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance and meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned task.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Position requires travel.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

Work is performed in a shop environment, aircraft hangars, flight line, and shipboard that are moderately lighted, heated and ventilated to extreme weather conditions outside. It is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed areas and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts, sweepers, tow vehicles and aircraft. May be required to work in areas that are noisy, dusty, and dirty.

May also be exposed to moderate discomforts, such as heat, cold and wind. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
