Job Summary

Regularly performs the full range and scope of housekeeping services at a Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and or Navy Lodge property including but not limited to cleaning guest rooms, interior public spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, exterior spaces, etc. These services include but are not limited to vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, washing, moving items, polishing, cleaning, removal of debris, trash transportation, clean and dirty linen, towels, etc.

Uses hand and powered cleaning equipment in connection with performing duties.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Clean guest rooms and other assigned areas. Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, waxer, and polisher. Empty wastebaskets, dust, wax, and polish room furniture. Wash walls, partitions, air vents, disinfect, deodorize toilet bowls, lavatories, etc. Wash and replace window treatments and clean ceiling fixtures. Change light bulbs and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds. Move furniture to clean under and behind, use step stool to clean windows and window treatments, cabinet tops, mirrors, and picture frames.

    Clean bathroom areas including tub, tile walls, commode, floors, and vanity. Clean kitchen areas including stove, ovens, microwave, refrigerator, cabinets, and floor. Wash and disinfect dishes, utensils, and cookware.
  • Clean iron and ironing board and replace cover as necessary. Clean and ensure proper functionality of luggage racks and ensure proper number of male/female hangers available in closets. Ensure TVs are clean and programmed to proper channel and volume; alarm clocks are properly programmed and backup battery; in-room phones are clean and working.
  • Place proper number of amenities, consumables, and non-consumables in rooms. Remove and replace bed linen; inspect mattresses and pull‑out sofas. Move re‑position beds upon guest checkout or upon guest request.
  • Greet and welcome guests, maintaining outstanding guest relations.
  • Ensure privacy and security of guests is maintained at all times.
  • Clean vacuums and mop corridors, stairways, guest laundry, patios, and balconies. Shampoo rugs, carpets, and polish rails of stairways regularly. Complete scheduled carpet cleaning using heavy industrial carpet cleaners and equipment.
  • Perform deep cleaning as required by program standards (e.g., scheduled basis and upon check‑out of guests in pet‑friendly rooms and in rooms that had an ADA service animal). Tasks include defrosting refrigerator, cleaning windows inside and out, carpet cleaning, shampoo/spot treatment, wall cleaning, etc.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order of storage rooms.
  • Communicate status of cleaned rooms and other spaces to supervisor via daily assignments or property management system.
  • Accomplish minor repairs and maintenance of equipment; report major repairs or replacement.
  • Clean and inspect exterior spaces such as parking lots and outside passageways.
  • Load and unload trucks, vans; assist with receipt of supplies from vendors, assembly, separation, storage, and delivery of merchandise; open boxes and crates; move heavy items using hand truck; use hand tools such as hammers, pliers, box cutters, crowbar, and shears for cutting bands.
  • Responsible for pass key and other keys; return all keys at end of shift.
  • Report immediately to supervisor for issues such as missing luggage, no service needed rooms, vacancies, extra guests, unauthorized pets, or any unusual circumstances.
  • Report lost and found items to housekeeping supervisor immediately.
  • Responsible for set‑up, breakdown, and clean‑up of complimentary self‑service breakfast bar. Assist with heating, displaying, and replenishing breakfast items for guests; ensure area returned to original state and free of food residues by end of breakfast hour. Obtain required food handling certifications.
