Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Lead Instructor – Full-time

Base Pay Range

$28.05/hr – $42.10/hr

Major Responsibilities
  • Design and develop instructional materials and lesson plans for didactic and psychomotor educational offerings.
  • Utilize adult learning principles to plan, develop, and facilitate the EMT education program, and work collaboratively with the EMS Medical Director and EMS System Coordinator to evaluate, update, and revise the program as needed.
  • Provide instruction through a variety of methods, teaching all phases of the EMT program, and remain current with content, technology, and teaching and learning strategies.
  • Develop and administer written and practical examinations; obtain and oversee clinical skills proctors for practical exams.
  • Collaborate to develop and implement simulation scenarios utilizing high‑fidelity simulation labs when available.
  • Maintain program student files and clinical site agreements, develop schedules for students’ clinical rotations, and provide educational counseling to students.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with the EMS system, EMS providers, and the Medical Center.
  • Participate in recruitment, EMS outreach, and EMS Week activities.
  • Assist with the Accredited Paramedic Education Program, EMS System education, and Training Center education as needed.
  • Support the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required
  • Paramedic license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • Current Advanced Practice Provider (RN, PA, etc.) license issued by the state in which the team member practices and eligible for reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
Education Required
  • High School Graduate.
  • Completion of an Emergency Medical Services Provider or advanced practice provider program.
Experience Required
  • 4 years or equivalent (8,000 hours) of experience as a licensed AEMT, Intermediate, Paramedic, or Advanced Practice Provider in a pre‑hospital emergency care environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of previous EMS teaching experience.
  • American Heart Association BCLS Instructor – Current or able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • American Heart Association ACLS Provider – Current.
  • American Heart Association ACLS Instructor – Current or able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • American Heart Association PALS Provider – Current or able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • EMS Instructor I license in the state in which the team member practices – Current or able to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state in which the team member practices.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to adjust schedule to manage multiple concurrent activities, meet changing duties, volume of work, and needs of the EMS program.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, database use, internet, and email.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Human relation skills to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with team members, EMS providers, and physicians.
  • Self‑motivated and requires little to no supervision; collaborative team member.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and problem‑solving skills, and prioritization in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Coordination, collaboration, delegation, and team‑building skills.
  • Willingness to learn supportive technologies, including learning management systems, multimedia, and emerging technologies.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during work shift.
  • Must lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, and 20 lbs over the head.
  • Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
