Base pay range$24.85/hr - $37.30/hr
Major Responsibilities- Perform EMG procedures, including motor and sensory nerve conduction studies and somatosensory evoked potentials.
- Identify and reduce artifacts by positioning the patient for accessibility and comfort, creating an optimal environment for relaxation.
- Prepare the patient and equipment for needle examinations, disinfect electrodes and probes as per policy.
- Verify nerve stimulation by observing muscle contractions.
- Document waveforms, latencies, amplitudes, conduction velocities, and other relevant data for physician review.
- Perform routine NCS/EMG procedures according to facility policies.
- Complete electrodiagnostic competencies successfully.
- Maintain a productive schedule, with approximately 6.5 hours per day for direct clinical care.
- Handle duties such as billing, mailing, maintaining cleanliness, ordering supplies, filing, and participating in departmental committees.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives and safety practices.
- Participate in meetings, in services, and continuing education.
- Follow patient satisfaction initiatives and serve as a role model for patient care.
- Ensure OSHA standards are met in the laboratory and testing sites.
- Prepare examination rooms and data sheets with patient information and relevant medical history.
- Explain procedures to patients and assist with preparation and positioning.
- Maintain supplies and organize equipment for procedures.
- Calibrate and assist in maintaining equipment.
- Complete competency assessments and report issues promptly.
- Record patient data and test results accurately.
- Complete all documentation in line with policies.
- Stock and restock medications, check for expiration, and discard expired items appropriately.
- High School diploma or equivalent with emphasis on sciences.
- 1-2 years EMG technician experience and formal training under a physician.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- BCLS certification in CPR.
- Lift 50-100 pounds occasionally, or 25-50 pounds frequently, and 10-20 pounds constantly.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted; use patient handling equipment for heavier lifts.
