Registered Nurse (RN) - Short Stay Unit .9 7A (4:1 Rn to patient ratio)
Advocate Health Care is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for its Short Stay Unit. This position requires a strong clinical skill set and the ability to work effectively within a 4:1 RN to patient ratio.
Base pay range$37.50/hr - $56.25/hr
Major Responsibilities- Use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized interventions.
- Anticipate and recognize significant changes in patient condition, providing ongoing assessment and taking appropriate action.
- Implement strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety; assess readiness to learn and collaborate with families.
- Coordinate discharge plans using an interdisciplinary approach.
- Apply evidence‑based practice and consistently incorporate nursing and regulatory standards into care.
- Evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes and take appropriate action when changes are needed.
- Demonstrate effective communication, conflict resolution, and leadership skills with unlicensed personnel.
- Promote a culture of safety, report events and near misses, and assist in corrective actions.
- Participate in quality/process improvement initiatives and professional development activities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of age‑specific care and apply department policies for patient age groups.
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing.
- Generally requires 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
- Holistic patient care with a patient/family focus.
- Ability to recognize situational changes and respond promptly.
- Proficient computer skills, including electronic mail and medical records systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; listening and interpersonal skills.
- Human relation skills, ability to build rapport, and collaborate with diverse team members.
- Independent decision making and critical thinking.
- Organizational, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Time management and ability to multi‑task with frequent interruptions.
- Coordination, collaboration, delegation, and team‑building skills.
- Maintain annual educational requirements for hospital‑based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF).
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach, and twist throughout the workday.
- Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist; lift up to 20 lbs over head; carry up to 40 lbs over a reasonable distance.
- Push/pull with 30 lbs of force; perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
- Operate equipment and foot pedals on carts or machines.
- Exposure to chemical/waste, blood, body fluids, and communicable disease; protective clothing required.
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, and hand manipulation for IV insertion and other procedures.
