Stationary Engineer III (Full Time, 1st Shift)
Advocate Health Care – Christ Medical Center, Oak Lawn, IL
Base pay: $32.45/hr – $48.70/hr
- Works within defined standard operating procedures.
- Operates campus HVAC equipment including boilers, steam absorption and centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, fans, pumps, and systems to optimize efficiency, safety, and occupant comfort.
- Maintains accurate logs and reports on equipment status via logbooks and CMMS.
- Utilizes BAS for monitoring and controlling HVAC equipment, responds to alarms, and optimizes operation using trending reports.
- Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC and related equipment, including inspection, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, testing, flushing, minor repairs, rebuilding and part replacement.
- Troubleshoots complex HVAC issues, determines root cause, executes repairs or installations, and requests assistance when warranted.
- Has intermediate knowledge of medical gas systems.
- Responds to building occupant complaints professionally and takes corrective action.
- Maintains daily logs, preventive maintenance records and equipment repair files in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Performs general maintenance tasks (painting, plumbing, carpentry, testing and repair, ventilation, lighting, electrical, groundskeeping, snow removal). Provides timely response to service calls, work orders, and preventive maintenance to maintain a safe, efficient environment.
- Reads blueprints and maintenance manuals to acquire knowledge for assignments.
- Helps facilitate small projects.
- Acts as an informal resource for less experienced peers.
- Stationary Engineer license from the municipality of work location or Power Engineer certification (1st–5th Class) from NIULPE or ASOPE. Equivalent federal certifications are acceptable.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Advanced training beyond high school, including completion of technical training.
- Four or more years of stationary engineering experience.
- Advanced knowledge of applicable codes and regulations for assigned equipment.
- Advanced computer skills (CMMS, building automation, Microsoft Office).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, crawl, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during the workday.
- Must lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead, 50 lbs. from floor to chest, and 50 lbs. at waist height over a reasonable distance.
- Must push/pull with 50 lbs. of force.
- Exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards; knowledge of safety precautions required.
- Position requires travel; exposure to road/weather hazards.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
