Co-Taught Kindergarten Shared Teacher Assistant

This position supports student learning by providing support to the student(s) and teacher in the classroom with responsibility for supervising students, implementing prescribed programs, maintaining records, and using instructional tools to support the educational program. The teacher assistant will interact with students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members in alignment with the district’s equity commitments and ensure equity is at the center of services.

Responsibilities
  • Instructional and Academic Support:
    Provide academic and instructional support to students individually, in small groups, or in full classroom settings under the guidance of a teacher; support core subjects (reading, writing, math); assist in implementing instructional modifications and interventions; prepare and organize instructional materials, technology, and equipment; collect data and chart student progress as directed.
  • Student Supervision and Behavioral Support:
    Supervise students during arrival, departure, lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times; guide and support social skills; implement and assist with behavioral management systems and positive reinforcement; redirect inappropriate behaviors; maintain a safe, respectful environment.
  • Professionalism and

    Collaboration:

    Maintain a positive, professional, and respectful atmosphere; demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality; collaborate with the classroom teacher and team; communicate with parents only as directed; participate in required professional development and school functions; follow conflict resolution procedures.
Knowledge Of
  • Content Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: effective instructional support strategies for individuals and small groups; basic concepts in reading, writing, math; behavioral management techniques; district and school policies on confidentiality and ethics; maintaining a safe environment.
Skilled In
  • Assisting with instructional materials, technology, and equipment; providing academic support in reading, writing, and math under teacher direction; supervising during school activities; redirecting behavior; collecting and documenting data.
Ability To
  • Implement instructional modifications and interventions; collaborate with staff to support student success; communicate professionally; maintain confidentiality; participate in professional development.
Candidate Qualifications
  • Illinois Paraprofessional License (minimally required)
  • Associate’s Degree (preferred)
  • Illinois Professional Educator License
  • Illinois Substitute Teacher License

Physical Requirements

This position requires light work (up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently) with close visual acuity, frequent talking, hearing, walking, standing, and occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Work performed in non-hazardous environments with indoor and outdoor supervision in varying temperatures.
