Concordia University Chicago (CUC) is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of Teacher Education to serve in the College of Education in the Division of Teaching and Learning. This vibrant division is home to a collaborative team of faculty dedicated to preparing the next generation of teachers. The division seeks a flexible, driven, and committed colleague to continue this tradition of excellence and growth of strong teacher preparation programs.
CUC offers a wide range of education majors including early childhood, elementary, middle grades, secondary, and PK-12 options at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching a host of pedagogy and content-specific courses in early childhood education.
The start date is August 1, 2026.
Responsibilities- Teach courses in the discipline of Early Childhood Education.
- Collaborate with Division Chair on course scheduling, staffing, program review, and course development.
- Design and monitor curriculum and assessments within the program.
- Serve as a liaison with adjunct faculty for the assigned courses within the program.
- Collaborate with the Director of the Early Childhood Center at CUC.
- Advise and mentor students in undergraduate and graduate initial licensure programs.
- Supervise teacher candidates during field experience and internships.
- Monitor state requirements and updates for licensure as applicable.
- Partner with the Division Chair, Dean, and other colleagues to complete program reports for the state and accreditation bodies.
- In consultation with the Chair, complete tasks and responsibilities as deemed necessary to ensure the successful operation of the Division.
- Participate in scholarship and service to the university, profession, and community.
- Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS).
- Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills across institutional units with faculty, staff, and senior leadership.
- Enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education and Concordia University Chicago.
- A record of successful teaching, scholarship, and service at the program or university level.
- The ability to motivate, encourage, and challenge students to high levels of academic success.
Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in public or private school settings required.
Education Requirements- Current teaching license required
- Master's degree in an education-related field required
- Doctoral degree in education preferred
- Undergraduate certification or colloquy completion as a professional church worker in the LCMS is preferred.
