Position SummaryThe mission of the OCC is to provide a full range of timely and accurate legal services and to support the mission and responsibilities of the SC, including its numerous site offices and the ISC. The OCC is composed of attorneys, paralegals, technicians, and administrative staff who work together to achieve the mission and function of its nationwide set of clients.
These personnel work proactively and collaboratively with their customers and, to the maximum extent possible (consistent with their professional responsibilities), function as an integral part of the DOE organization being supported.
- Administrative support for OCC, including Intellectual Property (IP), and OCC Mail and File Room.
- Review all non‑elected inventions arising out of performance by DOE contractors for possible government interest in patenting.
- Process and maintain legal documents associated with invention disclosures.
- Process requests to assert copyrights and waivers of patent rights from DOE contractors in accordance with contract provisions.
- Maintain and update IP dockets and databases, including IP Manager and iEdison.
- Transmit confirmatory licenses to DOE HQ for recording in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
- Maintain patent prosecution files for DOE‑filed cases.
- Maintain OCC Mail and File Room as needed in such a manner that confidential information in all formats is protected in accordance with both legal requirements and the profession’s ethical obligations.
- Remove and archive inactive records or files, and process appropriate files for retirement to federal records centers.
- Provide coverage and assist Office Managers.

Education and Training- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Polished verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use computer systems, Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of record management best practices and procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the capability of facilitating, briefing, speaking, and writing compelling papers/products. Exceptional organizational skills, ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks.
