The Asbestos Training & Compliance Coordinator is responsible for leading, coordinating, and maintaining safety compliance, training, and certification programs with a primary focus on asbestos hazards and state-mandated regulatory accreditations. Serving within a Department of Energy (DOE) prime contractor environment, this role manages state-level asbestos accreditations and training profiles for over 600 employees across multiple nuclear and high-hazard operational areas (including Y-12, ORNL, and specialized waste facilities).

The coordinator acts as the primary instructional lead for asbestos awareness, manages complex compliance databases, coordinates regulatory financial transactions with state entities, and supports secondary safety programs such as Beryllium protection, fire safety, and emergency response.

• Lead Instruction:
  Serve as the lead instructor for Asbestos Awareness courses, ensuring training content is engaging, updated, and meets all regulatory criteria.
• Backup Instruction:
  Maintain qualifications to act as a secondary/backup instructor for other safety courses, including Adult First Aid/CPR/AED, Fire Watch, and Fire Extinguisher Practical operations.

  Proactively pursue cross-qualification in emerging site programs, such as the Suspect and Counterfeit Items (S&CI) training curriculum.

• Accreditation Management:
  Oversee and maintain state asbestos accreditations for over 600 personnel across seven distinct operational areas (including Y-12, ORNL, Heritage, Nuc Ops, EMWMF, ORRLF, and TWPC) to prevent regulatory lapses.
• Regulatory Surveillance:
  Regularly review and evaluate state laws, EPA regulations, and Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) guidelines to ensure organizational compliance.
• Financial Facilitation:
  Coordinate directly with Control Account Managers (CAMs) and Project Control Engineers (PCEs) to process, track, and approve fee payments to state bodies (e.g., TDEC, META) for accreditation processing.

• LMS Administration:
  Utilize specialized Learning Management Systems (such as LEARN) and reporting tools to track qualification cycles, monitor training records, and issue proactive notifications regarding mandatory credentials.
• Access & Qualification Cards:
  Administer and issue official qualification and field access cards to authorized personnel (e.g., Forklift, PAPR, Beryllium, Radiological Worker, and general access).
• Continuous Improvement:
  Evaluate and categorize incoming Opportunity for Improvement (OFI) safety and operational procedures utilizing the Corrective Action Management System (CAMS).

• Supervisory Liaison:
  Work directly with field superintendents and department supervisors to manage individual and group asbestos accreditations, scheduling and training conflicts.
