DOE – Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO)
Chitina Diversified Services is seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to support federal construction activities in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
The SSHO will administer project safety requirements and help ensure compliance with the project Accident Prevention Plan, OSHA requirements, EM 385-1-1, 29 CFR 1926.16, 10 CFR 851, and applicable contract requirements. The SSHO is expected to maintain an active presence in the field whenever construction work is being performed.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and enforce the project Accident Prevention Plan.
- Conduct daily jobsite safety inspections.
- Conduct safety orientations, daily briefings, toolbox talks, and required safety meetings.
- Develop, review, and maintain Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
- Maintain safety deficiency logs and ensure timely corrective action.
- Inspect PPE, tools, equipment, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, and other safety equipment.
- Investigate accidents and near misses and maintain required records.
- Track exposure hours and safety performance information.
- Conduct emergency response drills and safety training.
- Identify hazardous conditions and unsafe work practices.
- Exercise stop-work authority when conditions present unacceptable safety risks.
- Maintain required safety documentation and Safety Data Sheets.
Required Qualifications
- At least 5 years of applicable construction safety experience, including SSHO experience on federal/USACE construction projects.
- OSHA 30-Hour certification.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
- Required continuing safety education consistent with applicable SSHO requirements.
- United States Citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance required.
- Knowledge of 10 CFR 851.
- Working knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and federal construction safety requirements.
- Fall Protection Competent Person certification preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
