System One is seeking an experienced Environmental and Seismic Engineer to support nuclear facility programs in Oak Ridge, TN. This role is essential to ensuring safety and non-safety related structures, systems, and components (SSCs) comply with seismic, environmental, and design basis requirements through rigorous analysis, qualification, and testing.
The successful candidate will lead and support seismic engineering, environmental qualification, analysis, and validation activities for nuclear equipment and facility systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact nuclear projects in a technically challenging, safety focused environment while collaborating with engineering, quality, testing laboratories, and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute environmental and seismic qualification plans for safety related and non-safety related equipment.
- Perform and support seismic qualification activities, including shake table testing, seismic response analysis, and qualification report preparation.
- Lead or support environmental qualification activities in accordance with design basis environmental profiles and applicable industry standards.
- Support qualification programs aligned with IEEE-344, IEEE-323, and related nuclear environmental/seismic standards.
- Coordinate with internal and external testing laboratories for seismic and environmental testing execution.
- Review, interpret, and approve test procedures, data packages, and final qualification reports to ensure compliance with regulatory and project requirements.
- Perform or support structural, seismic, and stress analyses for equipment, mounting configurations, anchorage, and facility interfaces.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, structural engineering, quality assurance, and facility operations teams to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure all qualification deliverables adhere to NRC, DOE, NQA-1, and project specific quality program requirements.
- Participate in vendor evaluations, technical reviews, and qualification documentation for procured equipment.
- Maintain complete traceability, configuration control, and documentation for seismic and environmental qualification activities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, lessons learned, and standardization of qualification processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Structural Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent relevant experience).
- Experience supporting nuclear facility projects or safety related qualification programs.
- Demonstrated experience with environmental qualification and/or seismic qualification testing or analysis.
- Ability to interpret seismic response spectra, environmental test results, and qualification documentation.
- Strong technical writing skills with experience developing engineering test plans, procedures, and qualification reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Hands‑on experience with shake table seismic testing and qualification execution.
- Working knowledge of IEEE-344
, IEEE-323
, and related qualification standards. - Familiarity with AC-156 seismic qualification requirements.
- Experience performing or supporting structural or stress analysis associated with seismic loading and equipment anchorage.
- Knowledge of NRC, DOE, and NQA-1 nuclear quality and regulatory requirements.
- Experience coordinating work with third‑party seismic or environmental test laboratories.
- Background with mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical equipment used in nuclear facilities.
