Position:Mine Planning Geologist
Eastern Division Operations, Oak Ridge, TN. The successful candidate will be responsible for formulating, designing, and communicating short and long‑term mine plans that improve our quarrying operations. The ideal candidate will be strong in AutoCAD/Carlson software and will be responsible for 15 quarry operations across Eastern Middle and Eastern Tennessee. The Mine Planning Geologist will report to the Eastern TN Production Manager and will take on additional responsibilities such as geological interpretation, mine modeling, and short‑term mine planning.
This position works closely and communicates frequently with Rogers Group’s corporate mine planning department.
- Formulate ultimate pit plans, reserve estimates, and 5‑year plans (using AutoCAD, Carlson, & GIS software)
- Create yearly stripping and production plans for the operations
- Collect field data using surveying equipment and drones
- Build a close line of communication with operations plant managers
- Manage land documentation and use of information
- Generate and maintain site plans and maps
- Field time required, with minimal overnight traveling
- Explore ways to continuously improve operations
- Create geologically detailed core logs and descriptions
- Assist with mergers and acquisition projects
- Assist in special projects deemed necessary
- Uncompromising focus on safety excellence and ability to complete MSHA safety training
- Experience with AutoCAD, Carlson, and Excel preferred but not required
- Self‑motivated and able to work without close supervision
- Ability to safely lift and move multiple 50lb core boxes
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather and tolerate changing conditions
- Interest in a career in the aggregate mining industry
- Detail‑oriented, strong problem‑solving skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology and/or related mining degree
- 2–5 years of experience in geology or a geology‑related field
- Mining, QA/QC, GIS experience, and FG/PG license preferred but not required
