Procedure Writers develop new, revised, or modified technical procedures which enable personnel to safety and correctly perform tasks associated with dimensional inspection, material testing, metrology, procurement, radiography, and weld inspection.
Where You’ll Work:
The Y12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, TN, plays a vital role in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Security Enterprise. Y-12 provides manufacturing, technical, and scientific expertise to produce components, subassemblies, and quality evaluations to sustain a U.S. nuclear deterrent and address other national security challenges.
- The writer is responsible for complying with Y15-232, Technical Procedure Process, and the Technical Procedure Authoring Tool (TPAT).
- Procedure Writers will occasionally develop or revise administrative procedures and are responsible for complying with Y15-235, Administrative Management Requirements Process, and the Administrative Procedure Authoring Tool (APAT).
- Writer is also responsible for developing Enterprise procedures applicable to Y-12 and Pantex.
- Must be familiar with regulatory and administrative requirements affecting procedures and must determine the technical requirements that apply by examining DOE Orders and Standards, including 60-101PD, Y60-015, Nuclear Criticality Safety documents, and Hazard Analysis documents.
- Prepare and coordinate procedure reviews and comment resolution. The Writer implements hazard controls, captures quality and performance data, and ensures that the procedure can be performed as written through verification and validation.
- Requires a Bachelor of Science degree with 10+ years of experience in technical disciplines, plus experience writing technical procedures in a commercial or Weapons Complex facility.
- In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a technical background with 18 years of experience in writing technical procedures in a commercial nuclear or Weapons Complex may be considered.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge.
- Successful drug screening.
- Schedule is full-time, Monday – Friday 40-hour week.
- This position is a fully onsite position at the Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
