Position OverviewAs a Structural Design Engineer, you will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing structural calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe. Depending on the project load, you may be asked to support in multiple capacities including estimating and production environments.
LocationThe position is located in Lenexa, KS. Other locations may be considered.
Responsibilities- Perform intermediate calculations under the supervision of a more senior engineer. Solve problems using well established scientific principles.
- Analyze data and understand relationships and correlations.
- Draw conclusions and present findings to senior leadership.
- Be proactive about learning new information and skills.
- Under general supervision, analyze structures using various structural engineering software programs. Design buildings and building foundations, equipment platforms and foundations, pipe racks, and miscellaneous concrete and steel structures. Prepare quantities, cost estimates, and other supporting documentation for projects.
- Initiate development of personal objectives aligned with those of the organization.
- Seek feedback and use it effectively.
- Have good understanding of the complete design and contribute ways to improve the design.
- Utilize codes and standards to complete assignments.
- Identify the customers, both internally and externally.
- Handle various assignments, including rework, in a timely manner to meet schedule deadlines.
- Perform assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize productivity.
- Perform quality checks of the design in a team environment to ensure accuracy.
- Carry out assignments carefully while focused on details.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis) or architectural engineering minimum required.
- 2-4 years’ minimum relevant experience in Nuclear, Power Generation, or Industrial preferred, but other experience will be considered.
- Travel.
- Receives limited instruction on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignment from more experienced engineer.
- Adjusts to varying demands of work and performs well.
- Communicates effectively orally and in writing; presents ideas clearly and professionally.
- Knowledgeable in engineering software such as Staad Pro, SAP
2000, SAFE, RISA, spMats, and Mathcad. - Engineering in Training certificate (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE).
- Familiar with latest national design codes such as IBC, ASCE, ACI and AISC.
- Participates on teams effectively; accepts direction from the team. Individually contributes to success of the team.
- Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives.
- Serves as point of contact for external or internal customers.
- Follows through on commitments made to internal and external customers.
- Able to manage multiple responsibilities with set expectations and meet deadlines.
- Embraces flexibility to succeed in changing environments and understand that engineering design is a progression that involves multiple iterations.
