Piping Design Engineer, Level III Security Clearance

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking engineering, professional, technical, and administrative personnel to support the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS but will receive day‑to‑day direction and assignments from Y‑12 staff.

• Provide CNS Mission Engineering with full‑time piping design engineering support for facility and production area activities in Cat 2 and Cat 3 facilities.
• Prepare design output documentation to support minor facility modifications, including drawings, engineering instructions, data sheets, equipment specifications, equivalency evaluations, and calculations.
• Develop designs in accordance with ASME B31.3 and ASME B31.1.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and plant organizations to deliver timely design output.
• Apply experience in an NRC or DOE regulated environment.
• Understand Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly‑wage employees.
• Perform field walk‑downs and work in a production environment as required.

• ABET‑accredited BS degree in a relevant engineering discipline with at least 10 years of professional experience, or an MS degree in a relevant engineering discipline with at least 10 years of professional experience.
• US citizenship, at least 18 years of age, and ability to meet pre‑employment requirements (physicals, drug screen, background investigation).
• Q clearance or ability to obtain one.
• Pre‑employment drug screen (post‑offer).
• Medical examinations as required for the role.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy clearance; if required, participation in a Workplace Substance Abuse testing program may be necessary.
