Job SummarySMSI is hiring a Project Engineer who will be responsible for supervising the engineering activity (all disciplines) on a project, or designated portions of a project, for a global business unit. This person will be based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and will plan and direct engineering assignments on projects. The candidate should demonstrate technical responsibilities for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating engineering assignments.
ResponsibilitiesThe qualified candidate will perform as the lead technical representative for engineering activities pertaining to planning, design, execution and closeout of d esign changes, SDDRs, RFIs, etc... in accordance with client's engineering procedures and applicable national and / or nuclear codes and standards, e.g., NEC, IBC, ASME, NFPA, ASCE, etc. The Project Engineer will lead and manage design development of DCFs from a subcontracted A/E;
provide support to subcontracted equipment fabrication and subcontracted construction / equipment installation. The candidate will also verify A/E design compliance at each design development stage, i.e., 30/60/90/100 percent maturity.
- Conduct advanced engineering and business analysis to identify alternative approaches to resolve programmatic issues.
- Coordinate manufacturability reviews with fabricators, design agencies and the Integrated Project Team (IPT)
- Evaluate supply chain for potential risks to fabrication and delivery.
- Work with the IPT to ensure scope, requirements, safety, and schedule are implemented and maintained during design, fabrication, installation and testing.
- Manage and process deviation requests, non conformance requests for information and changes to issued design when needed.
- Support fabrication and execution activities and schedules through progress tracking, identifying problems and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- At least 6 years of relevant work experience in engineering/project management.
- Experience working with glove boxes.
- Relevant work experience can be satisfied by 12 years of engineering nuclear work in the DOD, DOE or commercial nuclear industry space executing line item construction projects.
- Familiarity with project cost and scheduling, and aptitude to become a certified Control Account Manager (CAM) under the Earned Value Management System.
- Excellent verbal and written communications as well as comfortable working skills in desktop automation.
- Ability to work onsite in Oak Ridge, and travel short term as needed to client sites.
- US citizenship is required.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline from an ABET-accredited college or university.
