What You'll Do
- Interact with stakeholders to write specs and scopes for complex and large discrete event simulation models; assume responsibility for the end-to-end development of simulation models using Simio.
- Develop and run experiments to test “What-if?” scenarios for clients.
- Develop both green and brown field models to drive the layout and flows of facilities.
- Develop and maintain models for consistent usage.
- Work in a highly visible group that is pushing change throughout the company.
- Present findings to stakeholders and management, using tools such as Tableau and/or Powerpoint.
- Be on the front line of driving innovation and process change at the Y12 National Security Complex.
- Develop a deep understanding of the full manufacturing process to drive operational excellence.
- Interact closely with all levels of the production facilities.
- Cleanse data coming into and out of the simulation model.
- Work closely with other data scientists and data visualization experts to craft a compelling story for upper management.
- Be an integral member of the Manufacturing Modeling and Analytics team.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline:
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience. - Master's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. - PhD:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience. - Working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP/S4 preferred).
- Strong communication, teamwork, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operation Research, Data Science, or related field.
- Experience with discrete event simulation software (Anylogic, Flexsim, Simio, Extend Sim, etc.).
- Experience with data visualization software (Power
BI, Tableau, Qlick, etc.). - Experience leading data integration or Web API development efforts.
- Experience with digital transformation, digital twins, or advanced manufacturing analytics.
- Familiarity with manufacturing systems, constraints modeling, scheduling systems, or operations management.
- 5 years experience with Simio.
- 2 years experience coding with Python, R, or other similar language.
- 2 years experience with Tableau.
- Ability to derive and write scopes through interviews with cross-functional team members.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional technical or engineering projects.
- Manufacturing experience is a plus.

- Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
- This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence‑scope polygraph examination.
- This position may be categorized as a “designated position” identified by 10 C.F.R. Part 709, requiring successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation that may include a counterintelligence‑scope polygraph examination.
