This Mechanical Designer position supports HVAC design efforts for the Department of Energy at Y‑12 National Security Complex (Oak Ridge, Tennessee) and the Pantex Plant (Amarillo, Texas).

Responsibilities
  • Five or more years of progressive and relevant experience in HVAC design and 3D modeling.
  • Technical knowledge of related engineering systems, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers.
  • Ability to plan, self‑perform tasks and multi‑task on multiple projects.
  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively through the oral and written word and utilize automated workflow systems.
  • Must coordinate verification and validation of documents with technical and operations personnel prior to release for approval and implementation.
  • Ability to develop and maintain historical information.
  • Ability to prepare, interpret, maintain, and incorporate requirements of technical drawings and operating documents.
Qualifications
  • US citizen, at least 18 years old, and able to meet pre‑employment requirements including physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation.
  • Associate degree in a related discipline (HVAC or fire protection) with two or more years of progressive and relevant experience in HVAC and/or fire sprinkler system design and 10‑15 years total experience.
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a DOE Q clearance.
  • Pre‑employment drug screen required for external applicants.
  • Medical examinations may be required.
  • If required, ability to obtain and maintain a DOE clearance and participate in a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) program, including an ongoing random drug testing program.
