Boston Government Services (BGS) is seeking a Reliability Engineer to support our clients at the Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Where You’ll WorkThe Y12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, TN, plays a vital role in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Security Enterprise. Y-12 provides manufacturing, technical, and scientific expertise to sustain a U.S. nuclear deterrent, reduce the threat from weapons of mass destruction, supply nuclear material to the Naval Reactors Program, and provide solutions to other emerging national security challenges.
Aboutthe Role
As a Reliability Engineer (RE), you will serve as a strategic interface between Production, Engineering, Projects, and Maintenance organizations, recommending and providing technical expertise to enhance equipment design, reliability, and maintainability. You will optimize asset management processes through proactive maintenance strategies, minimizing downtime and failure rates while maximizing equipment reliability.
Responsibilities- Define and support implementation of recommendations that ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems.
- Provide reliability‑based technical support to Production, Operations, Infrastructure Management, and Craft personnel.
- Gather, review, and analyze data concerning facility or equipment reliability, availability, maintainability, and inspectability (RAMI) specifications.
- Review technical documents that depict or define reliability, accessibility, maintainability, or inspectability features of systems, equipment, and facilities.
- Lead integration of project and plant RAMI deliverables.
- Develop proactive maintenance strategies for structures, systems, and components.
- Conduct equipment Failure Mode Identification and Root Cause Failure Analysis.
- Conduct trend analysis of structures, systems, and components.
- Define, develop, implement, revise, and monitor Asset Management Plan(s) for structures, systems, and components.
- Deploy condition‑based, predictive, and other non‑destructive testing methodologies to identify and isolate reliability problems before failure.
- Complete and present both RAMI and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) analyses to internal and external engineering partners.
- Perform analysis including labor distributions, critical spares identification, proactive asset management plans, failure rates (MTBF, MTTR), and life‑cycle cost analysis.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program.
- 5+ years of Reliability Engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering/physical science with 2+ years of Reliability Engineering experience.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment and promote collaboration.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
- Capability to resolve complex issues and multi‑task in a fast‑paced work environment.
- 1 year of nuclear experience or a DOE approved alternative is required. (DOE 426.2 experience can be satisfied following employment.)
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Requires an active U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance.
- Successful drug screening.
- This is a fully onsite position at the Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
- Full‑time schedule, Monday – Friday, 40‑hour week.
