Process Engineer - Wet Chemistry Process
TRISO-X, LLC is seeking multiple Chemical Process Engineers responsible for design and development of systems and methods for the manufacture of nuclear fuel elements. This role supports the Wet Chemistry team.
Responsibilities- Contribute to the design of wet chemistry processes including acid deficient urinal nitrate, gelation, solvent recovery, liquid chemical processing, liquid chemical transportation, evaporation, filtration, storage, mixing, etc.
- Develop and lead implementation of advanced manufacturing processes to meet production goals and quality standards.
- Develop specifications for process equipment and collaborate with equipment suppliers to ensure critical design characteristics are met.
- Work with subcontractors and suppliers to design, construct, deliver, and install process equipment.
- Conduct research to develop new and improved processes for manufacturing, evaluate and implement new equipment and technologies to improve process efficiency and product quality.
- Develop methods and procedures to process and handle chemicals and materials that are solid, liquid, and gaseous in a safe and efficient manner.
- Design and plan equipment layout, particularly for new processes, new products, or new customers.
- Work with R&D to translate lab‑scale processes to pilot scale and production scale processes.
- Collaborate with regulatory team to establish safety procedures and controls for individuals working with dangerous chemicals, processes, or equipment, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
- Provide support for waste permitting.
- Conduct tests and monitor process performance throughout production.
- Troubleshoot problems associated with manufacturing processes and monitor variances from process controls, providing recommendations to reduce or eliminate variances.
- Maintain a master list of all equipment, chemical inputs, outputs, and waste streams.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex process‑related issues.
- Mentor and train junior process engineers.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, material science, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Preferably, 5 years of experience (Level III), 10 years (Level IV), or 15 years (Level V); advanced degrees may reduce required experience.
- CAD and P& required.
- Experience with industrial equipment design, procurement, installation, and operation required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- General understanding of the nuclear fuel cycle preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with powder processing, graphite powder, extrusion, ceramics, chemical processing, industrial waste processing, and liquid processing preferred.
- Ability to work in a team to produce desired outputs in short turnaround times.
- Willingness to work with hazardous materials such as low enriched uranium, nitric acid, and phenolic resin.
Location: Oak Ridge, TN
Work Site Expectations: On‑Site
Travel Expectations: Less than 10%
Hours: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Mon‑Fri
Compensation: Level III: $95,100 – $158,500
Level IV: $113,850 – $189,750
Level V: $128,400 – $214,000
Position Job Classification: Full time – Exempt
