ResponsibilitiesThe Sr. Technical Advisor will be responsible for managing complex, multi-discipline engineering issues as assigned by the Director. The position requires knowledge of the Nuclear Weapons Enterprise System. The role involves making decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an important impact on extensive technical activities. The advisor will demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature technical judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented technical problems, determining program objectives and requirements, and developing standards and guides for diverse activities.
The position requires advanced understanding and application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the engineering field. Responsibilities also include implementing company policies, recommending new policies, coordinating with other engineering leads and Design Agency partners to achieve Mission Engineering objectives, sharing expertise for the benefit of the organization, and assisting with the development and coordination of the engineering weapon education program.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET, with a minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience.
- OR MS in Engineering/Physical Science and 10 years of relevant experience.
- OR PhD in Engineering/Physical Science and 7 years of relevant experience.
- Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job‑related, and 1‑year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.
- Thorough knowledge of current Special Materials processes at Y‑12 as well as future processing strategies.
- Requires significant amounts of time in production environments.
Job Requirements
- Advanced degree in Engineering.
- Experience in the Nuclear Weapon's Complex from either the contractor, federal, or military perspective.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex assignments and strong oral and written communication skills. Willingness to work in a production environment and ability to communicate clearly with technical personnel and management.
- Capability to perform technical assignments requiring originality and exhibit independence in utilizing engineering knowledge and experience.
Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Role may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence‑scope polygraph examination. The position may also be categorized as a "designated position" identified by 10 C.F.R. Part 709, requiring successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation that may include a counterintelligence‑scope polygraph examination.
