- Develop process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, sequences of operations; select and layout mechanical equipment and piping systems; develop mechanical construction and equipment specifications, test and inspection plans, and system design descriptions.
- Perform hands‑on CAD using Microstation, AutoCAD MEP and/or Revit platforms.
- Perform piping calculations with industry software (Arrow, Fathom, etc.).
- Communicate with equipment vendors to determine requirements for applying products.
- Perform field verification and take‑offs of existing systems for renovation projects.
- Coordinate with other disciplines (fire protection, architectural, structural, electrical, etc.) for piping details.
- Understand work planning and manage design process within available hours and schedule.
- Generate calculations, design analyses, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Mechanical wet and dry piping systems (all systems).
- Heating and chilled water hydronic piping systems, natural gas piping systems, domestic water and waste water piping systems, steam and condensate piping systems, compressed air systems, and mechanical system controls.
- Facilities layout.
- Plumbing.
- Knowledge of federal requirements for life cycle cost analyses of energy‑consuming systems and building envelope alternatives.
- DOE, DOD, and nuclear experience is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Master’s degree in Engineering is a plus.
- PE license or willing to obtain one within one year of hire.
- Minimum eight years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering (piping); competency in design of common piping systems and equipment, including air and hydronic equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of codes and standards including ICC, ASHRAE, ASME, IBC, IPC, NFPA, ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.9, and ASME Section VIII.
- Familiarity with pipe line sizing calculations, sizing of pressure‑relief valves, and sizing of pressure‑control valves.
- Familiarity with plumbing system design and common plumbing codes.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microstation, Microsoft Office Suite, and other technical software.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Contract employment for up to 12 months. This position may require obtaining a government clearance and undergoing background investigation and drug testing.
