UCOR, an Amentum-led partnership with Jacobs, is the Department of Energy's (DOE) Environmental Management prime contractor for the Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR). Our mission is to safely and compliantly execute the environmental cleanup of the ORR, transforming former nuclear sites into assets for the future. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Waste Coordinator to serve as a primary technical lead for waste programs at assigned facilities/projects and act as the central point of contact for waste generators.
Position Summary:The Waste Coordinator serves as the technical expert and primary liaison for all waste management activities at designated UCOR facilities or projects. This role is critical in guiding waste generators through the complex processes of waste identification, characterization, segregation, and disposition. The Waste Coordinator ensures that all waste management activities comply with regulatory requirements, UCOR procedures, and facility authorization bases, maintaining a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and environmental protection.
This position requires in-depth technical knowledge, strong organizational skills, and the ability to effectively communicate and coordinate across various teams.
This role requires a dedicated professional capable of providing detailed technical guidance and ensuring regulatory compliance across complex waste management operations.
Key Responsibilities:- Waste Program Technical Leadership: Serve as the technical lead for Waste Programs at assigned facilities/projects, providing expert guidance and solutions.
- Generator Liaison and Coordination: Act as the single point of contact for waste generators, coordinating resources for effective waste management and providing support for planned waste identification and characterization.
- Waste Stream Management: Identify discrete waste streams for proper segregation according to waste profiles and link them to appropriate disposition profiles within the eMWaste system.
- Forecasting and Planning: Assist in waste generation forecasting and ensure waste management activities are integrated into facility plans (Plan of the Week/Day) and represented at meetings.
- Compliance and Oversight: Participate in facility audits and walk-downs of Waste Management Areas (WMAs). Manage all waste management activities within WMAs, including those under CERCLA.
- Facility Interface: Notify the Facility Manager of planned changes in waste-related operations and obtain concurrence for WMA activities that could impact the authorization basis or facility functionality.
- Safety and Procedural Adherence: Ensure all work performed by Waste Management (WM) personnel within WMAs is conducted safely, adheres to approved procedures, operates within the safety documentation envelope, and follows work control processes specified by facility management.
- Incident Response: Notify both the Waste Generation Services (WGS) Manager and the Facility Manager in the event of an incident or emergency.
- Personnel Oversight: Provide day-to-day oversight of assigned WGS Waste Technical Support Specialists (WTSS).
- Waste Certification Implementation: Ensure the implementation of all Program Waste Certification requirements, including specific requirements for the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) and verification that packages contain no anomalous or prohibited items.
- Regulatory Documentation: Assist with or complete and submit Land Disposal Restriction (LDR) notifications to the Waste Disposition Specialist (WDS).
- Quality Assurance: Perform self-assessments and routine inspections of WGS activities and facilities to ensure ongoing compliance and operational excellence.
- Work Package Review and Approval: Review work packages related to waste generation and WM activities and approve hazardous waste determinations.
- Chemical Management Coordination: Notify the Chemical Services Coordinator when an inventoried chemical is shipped for disposal.
