Technical Writer

TECHNICAL WRITER

Technical Writer needed for a well established manufacturing company in the Oak Ridge and Knoxville, TN area. Starting pay rate will depend on experience, education, and training. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Technical Writer in a similar manufacturing or engineering environment.

The Technical Writer collaborates directly with the engineering staff to document design verification activities, engineering technical reports, and manufacturing/service procedures. This position focuses on creating comprehensive technical documentation and supporting the rigorous record-keeping activities required for regulatory medical device compliance.

• Design & Compliance Documentation:
  Partner with engineering teams to document project plans, design inputs/specifications, design reviews, design outputs, and verification and validation (V&V) activities.
• Testing & Verification Support:
  Collaborate with engineers to determine requirement verification strategies, outline general testing approaches, and develop detailed test steps for individual requirements.
• Reports & Publications:
  Prepare, format, and formally release engineering technical reports using standardized company templates.
• Visual Asset Management:
  Develop and maintain a structured library of reference images and schematics for integration into manufacturing and service documentation.
• Procedure Development:
  Create and revise clear manufacturing and service procedures using technical data provided by engineers and other subject-matter experts (SMEs).

• Education:
  
  Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience:
  
  2+ years of professional experience as an effective technical writer, ideally within a regulated industry.
• Technical
  
  Skills:
  
  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Audience Adaptability:
  Proven experience writing clear, precise documentation tailored to diverse audiences (e.g., auditors, manufacturing technicians, field engineers).
• Subject Matter Mastery:
  Demonstrated ability to quickly learn, synthesize, and translate complex engineering and scientific concepts.
• Collaboration & Execution:
  Strong track record of working effectively with engineers and managing multiple concurrent projects with high attention to detail.
