Position: Laboratory Technician, Level III (Part Time)

Akima Infrastructure Services (AIS) is seeking part‑time technical support personnel to assist the Department of Energy at Y‑12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a government contractor that provides pay, benefits, human resources, and employment management functions.

Eligibility:
Must be a US citizen, at least 18 years old, and able to meet pre‑employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Employment type:

Part‑time, up to 20 hours per week with a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Proficiently collect blood samples (venipuncture).
  • Handle blood and urine samples and perform sample processing.
  • Run calibrations, quality control samples, proficiency testing samples, and patient samples on laboratory analyzers.
  • Review and interpret lab results and enter them into the electronic medical record system.
  • Perform scheduled analyzer maintenance.
  • Be trained to perform vision testing, ECG, and take vitals (blood pressure, pulse, O₂ sat, temperature).
  • Attend a NIOSH‑approved spirometry training course to become proficient in pulmonary function testing.
  • Attend a CAOHC‑approved audiometry course to become certified in performing audiograms (hearing tests).
Qualifications
  • Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Medical Technologist (Medical Laboratory Scientist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist).
  • Either an associate’s degree or higher and 6‑10 years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma and 13‑19 years of relevant experience.
Special Requirements
  • Pre‑employment drug screen for external applicants (post‑offer).
  • Medical examinations may be required.
  • May require the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy clearance; if required, the position would become a Workplace Substance Abuse Program (WSAP) testing position, necessitating participation in an ongoing random drug‑testing program.
