Radiation Control Technician

Radiation Control Technician – Oak Ridge, Tennessee (Full Time)

• Perform monitoring of personnel, work areas, and items leaving radiological areas to control exposures from internal and external sources.
• Recommend appropriate personnel monitoring devices, protective equipment, and working time for operations and maintenance personnel working with sources of radiation.
• Observe processes; read, record, evaluate, and report data from radiation detection devices, air, and bioassay sampling.
• Conduct investigation of cause and effect for results exceeding guides, standards, and limits.
• Calibrate instruments, operate automated low background counting equipment, process TLDs, and perform lung counts.
• Participate in the planning phase of new work processes and serve as a member of the emergency response organization.

• Current certificate confirming active HAZWOPER 40‑hour or 8‑hour refresher.
• Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical computations and conversions to express sampling and monitoring results in proper units and terms.
• Knowledge and training in principles, methods, and mechanics of monitoring and sampling of radiological hazards.
• Associate’s degree or higher in a technical field with 2–5 years of relevant experience, or high‑school diploma with 5–12 years of relevant experience.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance; DOE RCT standardized CORE training certification required.
• Successful drug screening.

• Associate’s degree or higher in a technical field with 10–15 years of related experience, or high‑school diploma with 20 or more years of relevant experience.

Position located at Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

• Fully onsite position at Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
• Full‑time, Monday – Friday, 40‑hour week.
