What You'll DoAlarm Station Operators provide constant and vigilant surveillance of security systems used for the protection of special nuclear materials, classified materials, and government property. They are expected to provide timely and accurate dispatch of the Protective Force, in accordance with the Security Incident Response Plan; ensure that routine security related functions, such as access control to special nuclear material (SNM) and non‑special nuclear material (SNM) areas are properly administered;
also required to perform daily functions checks of all security related equipment/systems and report any inoperable equipment/systems to the appropriate Protective Force supervisor, this includes the responsibility of each operator to maintain a clean and hazard free work area. Lastly, Alarm Station Operators are expected to maintain an intimate understanding of the following:
Federal Law (DOE specific), DOE Orders, Y‑12 Site Policy, Protective Force General Orders, Central Alarm Station General Orders, and the Security Incident Response Plan.

- Comprehension – Operators are expected to absorb, process, and retain vast amounts of information for extended periods of time;
- Working Under Pressure – Operators are expected to maintain composure when under immense stress;
- Decision Making – Operators are expected to be excellent problem solvers, with the ability to analyze unique situations and decide an effective course of action that adheres to company policy and the Security Incident Response Plan;
- Customer Service – Operators are expected to respond to the needs of customers while adhering to company policy and the Security Incident Response Plan; and
- Ethical – Operators are expected to assent to and be guided by the company accepted principles of moral conduct.

High School/GED
MinimumJob Requirements
High school diploma and one or more years of relevant experience in a related field. Examples include, but are not limited to: law enforcement, military, security police officer, security systems, emergency services responder, emergency services dispatcher, or a background in computer technology.
Specific Job Knowledge and Training Required upon Job Acceptance include- Knowledge of applicable federal laws, DOE and Y‑12 orders and directives, regulations and restrictions relative to the company.
- Knowledge of all communications, portals, personnel monitoring systems, material surveillance procedures, etc., and procedural response by all Protective Force elements.
- General knowledge of Protective Force operations.
- Skill and ability to perform self‑directed duties.
- Skill and ability to functionally use personal computers to include: word processing, company business software, database applications, spreadsheets, and/or internet applications.
- Skill and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, using strong interpersonal skills.
- Skill and ability to be customer service oriented.
- Ability to professionally utilize approved radio communications.
- Ability to meet medical Security Officer (SO) requirements per DOE Order 473.3A.
- Ability to maintain an in‑depth understanding of the Security Incident Response Plan.
- Ability to follow the company‑union contract, safety rules, and CNS Y‑12 policies.
