Location and Schedule
Oak Ridge, Tennessee – Department of Energy. Full‑time, day shift.

Motor Vehicle Mechanic supports the Vehicle Maintenance Facility, ensuring safe operation, quality assurance, and efficient repair of a variety of equipment, including passenger vehicles, light and heavy trucks, trailers, and specialized support vehicles.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance inspections, overhauls, and repairs on automotive and engineering equipment.
- Diagnose issues and determine repair extent, replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, engine parts, valves, carburetors, transmissions, fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
- Use hoists, wrenches, gauges, cutting torches, grinding wheels, and other specialized tools.
- Read and interpret prints, electrical diagrams, and maintenance instructions.
- Maintain accurate replacement and repair records.
- Ensure proper charging and disposal of parts, and properly store returned items.
- Follow safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping in the facility.
- Comply with Quality Assurance Programs and all applicable federal, state, DOE, corporate and site regulations.
- Participate in worker involvement for hazard identification and control planning.
- CDL Class A preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years automotive maintenance experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Must complete one ASE certification per year until title of Master Mechanic is achieved; master title must be maintained thereafter.
- Ability to lift or move up to 70 pounds.
- Capable of reaching, kneeling, walking, standing, and repetitive motion for extended periods.
- May require climbing in and out of vehicles and stair use.
- Must work effectively under pressure for extended periods.
- Valid state driver’s license and maintenance of coverage by Tessera insurance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances and installation access.
- Background check and E‑Verify.
- Real‑ driver’s license or acceptable alternative (U.S. passport, military ) for federal installation access.
- DOE pre‑employment medical examination and drug screening.
