Primary

Purpose:

The Senior Engineer will provide technical leadership in planning, designing, and executing projects related to Exelon's utility infrastructure, including electric or gas distribution, transmission, substations, and associated systems. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers, lead complex engineering studies, and ensure alignment with safety, reliability, and compliance goals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading advanced analyses of electric, gas, and communications systems and conducting outage investigations.
  • Developing and executing engineering strategies for grid modernization.
  • Managing project budgets, schedules, and resource allocations for major initiatives.
  • Facilitating collaboration across departments and engaging with stakeholders.
  • Conducting field inspections and addressing high‑impact technical challenges.
  • Being available for extended hours during energy delivery emergencies or storms.

Note: This is a hybrid position requiring in‑office attendance at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) at our Oakbrook Terrace, IL office. Relocation assistance is not available for this role.

Primary Duties:
  • Lead innovative engineering tasks requiring extensive expertise across specialized areas.
  • Drive complex engineering projects that necessitate specialized knowledge, which may involve field testing and peer reviews.
  • Evaluate intricate technical issues, recommending actionable solutions based on comprehensive analysis.
  • Lead impactful projects with significant financial and operational implications and develop initial commissioning plans.
  • Provide mentorship, technical training, and peer reviews to team members.
  • Participate in departmental planning through field/site walkdowns, meetings, and monitoring performance metrics.
  • Engage with technical and industry groups to stay ahead of new technologies and best practices.
Job Scope:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • In-depth understanding of engineering designs, principles, and practices.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with problem‑solving methodologies and engineering theory.
  • Significant knowledge of relevant standards, codes, and practices in the field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of professional engineering experience, with thorough expertise in specialized areas.
  • Proficient in applying advanced engineering principles to identify and resolve complex challenges.
  • Demonstrated career progression with three related experiences or active participation in industry committees.
  • A Professional Engineer license, advanced technical degree, or project management certification may qualify you for experience reductions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or relevant certifications.
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification or a Professional Engineer license.
