About the Role
The Cost Estimator is responsible for developing conceptual, schematic, and detailed cost estimates utilizing historical benchmarking data, market intelligence, and industry experience to deliver accurate project cost forecasts. The role supports cost management services across a variety of project types and delivery methods, working closely with architects, engineers, owners, and contractors to ensure clear understanding of project scope and cost drivers with a focus on accuracy and reliability.
Key Responsibilities Cost Estimating and Project Execution- Develop cost estimates at all levels, including conceptual, schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
- Perform quantity take‑offs, pricing, and cost analysis across major construction disciplines.
- Support preparation of budgets, cost plans, and estimate reports for client deliverables.
- Ensure estimates reflect current market conditions, labor availability, productivity assumptions, and project‑specific logistics.
- Coordinate with internal team members and disciplines to ensure completeness and consistency of scope.
- Review project drawings and specifications to ensure accurate interpretation of scope and system requirements.
- Identify scope gaps, inconsistencies, and coordination issues across disciplines.
- Support constructability reviews and provide input on sequencing and system integration.
- Assist in evaluating cost and schedule impacts associated with design changes.
- Support monitoring of project budgets and cost control efforts during design development.
- Analyze historical cost data and benchmarking information to validate estimate accuracy.
- Assist in change order evaluations and cost impact assessments.
- Contribute to identification of value engineering opportunities and cost‑saving strategies.
- Communicate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to clarify scope and assumptions.
- Participate in project meetings, estimate reviews, and coordination discussions.
- Support client relationships through responsiveness and clear communication.
- Participate in QA/QC processes, including peer reviews and estimate reconciliation.
- Ensure deliverables meet company standards for accuracy, consistency, and documentation.
- Incorporate review comments and feedback into estimate updates.
- Maintain awareness of construction market conditions, including labor and material pricing trends.
- Support updates to internal cost databases and benchmarking tools.
- Assist in gathering pricing data from contractors, vendors, and industry sources.
- Work collaboratively with senior staff and project teams to deliver high‑quality estimates.
- Provide guidance and support to junior estimators as needed.
- Contribute to process improvements and standardization efforts.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3‑6 years of experience in cost estimating and preconstruction services.
- Experience working on projects ranging from $5million to $100+million.
- Experience supporting conceptual and early‑stage estimating efforts.
- Demonstrated ability to perform estimates with increasing independence and technical responsibility.
- Scheduling experience preferred with knowledge or use of Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications across all disciplines.
- Understanding of construction sequencing, logistics, and installation practices.
- Familiarity with cost modeling, benchmarking, and estimating methodologies.
- Working knowledge of contract documents and project delivery methods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating tools (e.g., Sage Timberline, MCASES MII, or similar platforms).
$95,000‑$120,000 annually.
