Job Summary
As a Manufacturing Automation Engineer at Design Group, you will join a dynamic system integration and consulting company to provide cutting edge solutions to a wide range of industries. Our engineers work on projects to provide SCADA and/or industrial control system solutions to Fortune 100 companies in the Food and Beverage, Life Science, and Industrial market segments. The scope of work can include anything in the life cycle of a project starting from definition and selection of a platform to development/debugging and onsite startup.
Frequently this team works on first‑of‑a‑kind solutions to solve real‑world operational problems for our clients.
- Work individually or in a team with other Manufacturing Automation Engineers, and large projects with other engineering disciplines (e.g., greenfield design of new manufacturing plants and associated software systems).
- Design SCADA systems, including databases, database interfaces, data handling & reporting, scripting (VB, Python, etc.) and general programming.
- Perform onsite startup of systems that you designed and implemented.
- Understand project requirements to develop or configure industrial control packages accordingly for use in manufacturing space.
- Consider technical and operational constraints to create project development and commissioning plans.
- Manage multiple scopes of work in various phases simultaneously.
- Communicate with client stakeholders to understand scopes of work and deliverables.
- Understand or possess skills with back‑end computing infrastructure used in manufacturing (compute hardware, virtualization, operating systems, networking, databases, etc.) – a plus.
- 3+ years of system integration, SCADA, or industrial control system development experience.
- Preferred experience in the food and beverage or life science industries.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to simultaneously organize and successfully execute multiple project responsibilities.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of management, clients, and vendors.
- Contractor and construction management skills are a plus.
- Ability to mentor and train other less experienced engineers.
- Willing and able to travel for project requirements, including installation, start‑up activities, client meetings, and industry‑related seminars or conferences.
- Proven experience with GE iFIX HMI/SCADA software, including system configuration, troubleshooting, and application development.
- Expertise in at least one of the following SCADA platforms:
Ignition, Rockwell Factory Talk, Aveva Wonderware System Platform, or GE. - Familiarity with Rockwell PLC (Control Logix, PLC5, SLC
500). - Strong SQL skills and experience with MES software (Sepasoft, Aveva) – a plus.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science/Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience.
Approximate pay range: $100,000 – $130,000. Final compensation may vary based on factors including background, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location.
