Job Description
Sr. Licensed Mechanical Engineer – Oak Brook, IL. Relocation assistance available for highly qualified candidates.
Join BW Design Group’s Architecture/Engineering Process Practice as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, working directly with clients on complex manufacturing facility design projects across food & beverage, life sciences, industrial, and advanced technology industries.
Responsibilities- Lead the design and engineering of mechanical systems within manufacturing facilities, adhering to industry standards and regulations.
- Develop conceptual and detailed designs for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and specialized systems such as compressed air, steam, and industrial gas distribution.
- Determine appropriate equipment sizes and conduct equipment sizing for efficient operation.
- Design HVAC systems (air handling units, chemical and laminar fume hoods, unit heaters/coolers, etc.) to maintain optimal environmental conditions.
- Engineer fluid systems for water, chilled water, wastewater, cooling towers/condensers, boiler/steam or hot water, hydronic systems, compressed gases (air, O2, N2, CO2), waste/drain, and other plumbing systems.
- Ensure all mechanical designs meet local, state, and federal regulations and codes.
- Utilize REVIT, AutoCAD MEP, and Navisworks for modeling, simulation, and design.
- Collaborate with clients to understand requirements and provide technical insights.
- Follow quality control processes to maintain high standards of design.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, architects, and contractors.
- Oversee mechanical engineering aspects of projects to meet deadlines and budgets.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
- Minimum 10 years of hands‑on experience designing mechanical systems for manufacturing facilities.
- Experience with complex multi‑discipline architecture & engineering design projects, preferably for Food, Beverage, CPG, or Life Science manufacturing clients.
- Proficiency in equipment sizing, HVAC systems, and mechanical system design specific to manufacturing plants.
- In‑depth knowledge of water, chilled water, wastewater, cooling towers/condensers, boiler/steam or hot water systems, hydronic systems, compressed gases, waste/drain, and plumbing systems.
- Proficiency with REVIT, AutoCAD MEP, and Navisworks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client and team collaboration.
- Willingness to travel for project requirements including installation, start‑up, client meetings, and industry events.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited school.
- Relocation preferred; assistance available for qualified applicants outside the local area.
Approximate pay range: $120K - $160K. Final compensation may vary based on background, skills, and geographic location.
