Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Supply Chain Project Manager to support material planning and procurement for transmission & substation upgrade projects, including large voltage equipment such as switch gear, transformers, and circuit breakers. This role manages the full supply chain lifecycle for critical infrastructure projects, from vendor sourcing and bid evaluation through material delivery and field readiness, ensuring materials arrive on schedule and within budget to support project execution.

This is a financially heavy, vendor- and materials-intensive role.

The Senior Supply Chain Project Manager will join a collaborative team overseeing complex procurement and contract management requirements within the utility sector, working closely with engineering, construction, and project management teams to ensure material availability never becomes a project bottleneck.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end supply chain and material planning for Transmission and Substation upgrade projects, from initial sourcing through delivery and field staging.
  • Oversee vendor bid evaluations, contract negotiations, and supplier performance to ensure all material agreements and delivery commitments are met.
  • Manage procurement of large voltage equipment (switch gear, transformers, circuit breakers) including lead-time tracking and expediting for critical long-lead items.
  • Develop and maintain material tracking systems, bills of materials (BOM), and delivery schedules using industry-standard software.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineering, and construction teams to align material delivery with project milestones and site readiness.
  • Monitor supply chain risks — vendor delays, material shortages, price volatility — and proactively develop mitigation plans.
  • Manage supply chain and procurement budgets, ensuring materials are delivered within approved cost parameters.
  • Maintain accurate material readiness reporting and communicate supply status to stakeholders and senior management.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with equipment vendors, suppliers, and external partners.
  • Lead procurement and material-readiness meetings, facilitating discussions to resolve supply chain issues.
  • Manage supply chain documentation, including purchase orders, vendor contracts, and material tracking reports.
  • Support development and implementation of supply chain and material management best practices.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5–10 years of supply chain, procurement, or materials management experience, ideally within project-based environments.
  • PMP or CAPM certification (preferred; CPSM or APICS/CSCP a plus).
  • Utility Transmission & Substation materials/equipment experience.
  • Strong technical background with specific experience in utility, construction, or industrial materials management.
  • Proven vendor and contract management skills, including bid evaluation and negotiation.
  • Full life-cycle material/supply chain management experience — sourcing through delivery.
  • Utility, infrastructure, or construction supply chain experience.
  • Experience with vendor bid evaluations, financial forecasting, budget management, material planning, scheduling, and maintaining procurement records/databases.
  • Substation equipment and materials knowledge.
  • Proficient with MS Office, P6, Microsoft Project, PowerBI, and Unifier.
  • Ability to learn new procurement/materials systems quickly.
  • High intelligence, energy, and integrity.
