The Equipment Specialist II at Pace Analytical Services, Inc. is responsible for the maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with quality standards. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the operational readiness of our analytical instrumentation.

Compensation: $60,000. per year

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment, including but not limited to chromatographs (GC, HPLC, IC), spectrometers (AA, ICP-OES, ICP-MS), mass spectrometers, microscopes, and general lab support equipment.
  • Execute scheduled and unscheduled calibrations of instrumentation in accordance with manufacturer specifications, internal SOPs, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 17025, NELAC).
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical issues with laboratory equipment, identifying root causes and implementing effective repair solutions.
  • Conduct repairs and replacements of faulty components, sub-assemblies, and systems, utilizing appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Document all maintenance, calibration, and repair activities accurately and comprehensively in the designated maintenance management system or logbooks.
  • Assist with the installation, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), and decommissioning of new and existing laboratory equipment.
  • Collaborate with laboratory personnel to understand equipment performance needs and provide technical support and training on equipment operation.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts and consumables, ensuring critical components are readily available.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, quality assurance procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to equipment reliability and maintenance processes.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in electronics, instrumentation, a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience. A Bachelor's degree is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the maintenance, calibration, and repair of analytical laboratory instrumentation, preferably within an environmental, pharmaceutical, or contract laboratory setting.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic systems.
  • Strong understanding of calibration principles and metrology.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as ISO 17025, GLP, or NELAC.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to fault diagnosis.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail in documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical ability to lift and move equipment (up to 50 lbs), stand for extended periods, and perform tasks requiring fine motor skills.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
