Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Sales Leadership
    • Assist customers and lead the team in driving sales, service, and customer experience initiatives to achieve sales, KPIs, and store performance goals.
    • Prioritize, assign, and delegate daily goals, tasks, and assignments to the associate team and ensure proper completion when acting as Manager on Duty.
    • Maintain a high level of professionalism and a positive attitude, communicating appropriately in person, verbally, or by written means.
  • Customer Excellence
    • Partner with the Store Manager to plan and execute community events and develop relationships with rescue agencies.
    • Protect employees and customers by maintaining a safe and clean store environment.
    • Maintain cleanliness and the well‑being of all animals, including animal care and feeding responsibilities.
    • Lead and demonstrate engagement with customers using a selling and service model.
  • Operations & Team Building
    • Maintain store standards and meet all safety requirements, protecting both tangible and intangible company assets.
    • Clean pet enclosures and ensure animals have appropriate food and water; support the fish system maintenance.
    • Assist with restocking merchandise on shelves and fixtures and moving products from the stockroom to the sales floor.
    • Perform heavy lifting (up to 55 lbs) as required throughout a shift.
    • Partner with the Store Manager to ensure accurate inventories, count procedures, and shrink goals are met.
    • Execute store opening and closing procedures accurately.
    • Communicate gaps in performance to the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager promptly.
    • Support the execution of new‑hire training, merchandising guidelines, and community events.
    • Complete tasks and other duties as assigned by store management.
  • Business Insight
    • Understand the business, monitor daily shifts, and react promptly to business needs.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year of retail or customer service experience.
  • Enjoy working with and around animals.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle preferred.
Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Effort of Position
  • Heavy lifting up to 55 lbs required several times throughout a shift.
  • Standing, moving around, and occasional work alone in a temperature‑stable environment.
  • Active listening and observation required for customer communication and merchandising.
  • Risk of accidental injuries from pets; common injuries include slips, trips, falls, and strains/sprains from lifting.
